This document provides post-storm recovery guidance and checklists for nursing homes/ long term care facilities. This guidance document provides supportive interventions designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and help in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. The guide is intended for nurses, certified nurses' aides, social workers, and other direct-care staff. This rule establishes consistent emergency preparedness requirements for health care providers participating in Medicare and Medicaid, increases patient safety during emergencies, and establishes a more coordinated response to natural and man-made disasters. We would like to thank the California Association of Health Facilities for their use of grant-funded resources to adapt and expand the Hospital Incident Command System materials for the benefit of nursing facilities and other long-term care service providers. This document is an assessment form for residents of long-term care facilities who need to be evacuated and transported in an emergency.

The Nursing Home Incident Command System should be considered an essential component of a facility’s Emergency Operations Plan that includes events such as pandemics. Proper utilization of NHICS requires that facilities provide its staff with comprehensive training and exercise of the system. NHICS is a resilient incident management model that will guide a facility on managing a situation, either emergent or non-emergent, in a consistent manner in accordance with concepts promoted by the National Incident Management System .

It had a very good, skilled, and very caring nursing staff and excellent physical and respiratory therapy. I am staying here at the Layhill Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. I wore out my right arm and had shoulder replacement surgery. I've already had about two weeks of therapy here, but none of it involved working on my right arm.

They need to raise morale for the patients as most of the patients just sit in their wheelchairs and stare out the window. The corridor smells differently depending on the day. Multiple hand sanitizer dispensers do not work. Bed alarms are turned off without justification. Nurse calls remain unanswered for more than 30 minutes at times. When I was discharged, I was given somebody else's medication to bring home.

It is very difficult to identify and communicate with someone responsible when needs arise. And when communicated, my requests were not follow through. When I complained to the nurse station, they sent someone to the room, fiddled with some adjustments, and told me it would be alright. It turned out that the central air condition had a problem, which was fixed in about a week. However, nobody told us about the situation.

I was a Kaiser patient at Layhill HC for 11 days fore Rehab related to serious orthopedic surgery on my legs which were immobile. They were caring supportive and responsive. The facility, especially the PT/OT gym was spacious, clean and very comfortable for each PT session. PT/OT teams were professional, diligent and approriately cautious with my stability and fall risk. At the end of stay i was very confident with my capabilities and ability to function at home The room was a nice size with plenty of natural light.

Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular place provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This number is far below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Nursing homes vary in the quality of care and services they provide to their residents.
